Job
As a self-employed contractor Annette enjoys a lot of variety in her work within the food industry. She works with Crop and Food as the person in charge of meeting the outcomes of the Lifestyle Foods programme, reporting progress to the Board and communicating their developments to the public.
She is involved in consultancy work, managing projects, trouble-shooting for businesses going through difficult times and assessing food processing facilities for potential buyers. Annette is an Expert Reviewer for FoRST which involves assessing the funding applications of small businesses. On top of all this she chairs the Baking Industry Research Trust. These roles have allowed Annette to indulge her love of science and the baking industry whilst meeting milestones, solving problems and achieving commercial success.
Career Pathway
Annette combined biochemistry and computer science in a BSc (hons) at Otago University. On graduation, Annette decided to try teaching and did a DipT. She taught Chemistry for two years before using her skills in making science understandable to students to transfer to a new role with the Wheat Research Institute. Her role was to take the science that was being developed and translate it to make it more usable to industry. She then spent several years in management with Goodman Fielder before becoming an Operations Manager with Ernest Adams. In 2001 Annette started her own business as a consultant.
Interests
When Annette is not running around after her two sons she can often be found running around Christchurch with the Harriers running club. She is also a keen gardener.
