Lightweighting

In 1970 a yoghurt pot weighed around 12g, by 1985 the weight was reduced to around 5g. This was achieved by innovative plastics engineering and is called lightweighting.

If you drive 4km to the supermarket to buy a 1kg loaf of bread you will have used four times the energy needed to grow the corn, harvest it, mill it and bake it into a loaf.
