David Raubenheimer is a Nutritional Biologist at the University of Auckland and is researching selective nutrition in birds. He describes the basis for his work – understanding the nutrients that animals need, how much they need, where do the nutrients come from, and what they use them for. His work has assisted in the development of a new supplementary food for kākāpō.
