Liz Carpenter (AgResearch ): The only way you can be a scientist is if you are an optimist. Because you will do an experiment and you will try something out and it doesn’t work. And most of us will go, Ahh, you know, it’s not going to work, why bother? But we as scientists we just go, 'No, it didn’t work today, but tomorrow it’s going to work because I am going to do something else, or I am going to talk to people, or whatever'. And you just have to be an optimist at heart because you’ve got this goal and you just have to plug, plug, plug to get it done.
